General
Upper Abdominal Scans
At our practice we will assess your liver size, shape, texture and look for any changes in terms of cysts, masses and fatty infiltration. We will scan your pancreas, spleen and gallbladder, searching for changes and calculi as well as free fluid. We would advise that no food is consumed at least 6 to 8 hours before the abdominal scans
Abdominal and Pelvic Scans
A scan of the abdomen and pelvis can help diagnose problems in the abdominal and pelvic structures.
Prostate Scan
Sometimes the prostate condition or other conditions prevent urinary bladder from emptying properly and can lead to recurrent infections within retained urine. Prostate scan will be done trans abdominally, with full bladder.
During the test we will assess the:
- Size
- Shape
Once completed, we will provide you with a full report and images which you can take to your GP for further consultations if necessary.
Uterus and Ovaries Scan
A pelvic ultrasound is used to assess the uterus, ovaries and other pelvic structures. It is a commonly used test for conditions such as pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, menstrual problems, assessment of the endometrium, IUCD positioning and pelvic masses
During the test we will assess the:
- Size
- Shape
- Cysts
- Growths
Kidney and Bladder Scan
Kidneys are responsible for a wide range of high priority functions within your body- such as removing toxins, balancing fluids and producing urine. Using non-invasive ultrasound methods, we will make sure you are in perfect working order by checking the;
- Size
- Shape
- Outline
- Echogenicity (the ability to return the ultrasound echo) of both kidneys
This scan is usually done with a full bladder, so please drink 5 glasses of water 30 to 60 minutes before scan.
Breast Ultrasound
A breast ultrasound uses sound waves to make a picture of the tissues inside the breast. A breast ultrasound can show all areas of the breast, including the area closest to the chest wall, which is hard to study with a mammogram. Breast ultrasound does not use X-rays or other potentially harmful types of radiation.
A breast ultrasound is used to see whether a breast lumps is filled with fluid (a cyst) or if it is a solid lump. An ultrasound does not replace the need for a mammogram, but it is often used to check abnormal results from a mammogram

4D Scans
Seeing imges of your child prior to their birth can add an exciting and profound dimension to your pregnancy experience. At CJP ultrasound and 4D, we offer 4D scans with images on memory stick for you to take home and enjoy.
4D Baby Scans are best performed between weeks 24 and 32 of the pregnancy. These type of scans are highly popular amongst expectant mothers because of their realistic visual qualities that provide an exciting insight into your unborn child’s world- watching your baby smile, yawn, stretch and wave will give you a unique bonding experience before birth
Musculo-Skeletal
These include muscle, ligament and tendon tears, degeneration and inflammation, in addition to subcutaneous and intramuscular masses. In experienced hands, it is a reliable first line modality for defining the severity of disease and/or trauma. It is, therefore, an important aid for planning correct management of the injury and estimating recovery time, which has a direct bearing on the “return to play” period, for both amateur and professional athletes.
- Shoulders
- Ankles
- Knees
- Wrists
- Elbows
Ultrasound is “real-time”, providing a dynamic greyscale image of soft tissue structures in motion. The ability to visualise a structure moving through its range of motion gives it an advantage over MRI or CT scanning, however intra-articular structures cannot be visualised on ultrasound, and MRI and CT remain the gold standard for these injuries.
Vascular
Duplex Doppler studies of:
- Arterial systems of the limbs
- Venous systems of the limbs
- Carotid Arteries
- Renal Arterries
Adult Echocardiography
- Duplex Doppler
- M-Mode
- Tissue Doppler imaging
